1. In the 1969 film, Easy Rider, starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, what journey do the two bikers undertake?
Los Angeles to New Orleans. There was no script for the movie, and Fonda and Hopper made it all up as they went along. There were no crew either, with the pair relying on friends and passers by to hold the camera.
2. In the Disney Pixxar movie, Up, what is the name of the waterfalls that Carl visits?
Paradise Falls – the fictional waterfalls were actually inspired by Angel Falls – the highest falls in Venezuela, South America.
3. Where is the world’s most filmed location?
Central Park, NYC which has over 530 filming location credits including Home Alone 2 and Maid in Manhattan. Other popular filming locations around the world include Venice – used in The Italian Job, and Jordan which featured in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.
4. In what movie does this quote appear: "Don't wanna sleep, don't wanna die, just wanna go a-travellin' through the pastures of the sky."
Breakfast at Tiffanys. This iconic 1961 movie was written by Truman Capote, who actually wanted Marilyn Monroe for the lead role, but it was eventually given to Audrey Hepburn. Hepburn plays the eccentric socialite Holly Golightly, and sings the above line while playing guitar in the company of a Brazilian suitor.
5. “The world is not in your books and maps, it’s out there.” Which character from The Hobbit made this statement?
Gandalf. While the imposing voice of Gandalf makes this statement in The Hobbit, interestingly the quote was never coined by the author, JRR Tolkien. Regardless it inspires us all to spark some wanderlust in our lives in 2025 and beyond.
6. “Some journeys take us far from home. Some adventures lead us to our destiny.”
True - this quote comes from the movie, The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Written by CS Lewis, it took 8 years for him to write the whole series but just a few months to craft the first instalment. It’s thought that the mystical world was inspired by Lewis’ childhood growing up in Northern Ireland.
7. Name the movie/s that Hobbiton originates from.
The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings. The film crew really got their money’s worth from this location in New Zealand, on a working farm in Matamata. In 1998, a team of film scouts working for Sir Peter Jackson took an aerial tour of New Zealand. They were searching for a tall tree and pond similar to the Party Tree described in The Lord of the Rings books. The rolling hills made the perfect hobbit holes, and the whimsical trees were the ideally enchanting look. 8. What connects the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and a bridge in Portugal?
They were all engineered by Gustave Eiffel, a French civil engineer. As well as working for the company that designed and built the Eiffel Tower for the 1889 World Fair in Paris, he devised the iron framework for the Statue of Liberty, and had quite the reputation for building bridges too, including the Maria Pia Railway Bridge which he built in 1877.
9. Which celebrity is connected to Athens, Portugal and Lucknow?
Cliff Richard was born in Lucknow in 1940 and he owned a vineyard in the Algarve region of Portugal named Adega do Cantor, “winery of the singer”. He starred in the box office hit, Summer Holiday, which tells the story of his character Don, a bus mechanic, as he and his friends travel across Europe by bus, with the final destination of Athens.
10. Which film franchise was filmed in Seville, Tunisia, Mount Etna and Dubrovnik?
Star Wars. During the filming of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Plaza de España in Seville, Spain, stood in for Theed Palace.
Numerous locations in Tunisia were used to film scenes in Star Wars including the settlement of Mos Espa in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace which was filmed at Ong Jemel, near the town of Nefta. The movie set is nearly completely preserved too, and a must-visit for fans of the franchise.
In 2005’s Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader’s light saber battle took place on Mustafar, otherwise known as Mount Etna, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Fortunately CGI was employed for the lava-filled eruption scenes.
The fictional casino city of Canto Bight in The Last Jedi was shot in Dubrovnik, Croatia on Stradun, the Dominican Monastery, Pustijerna Street, and the Rector's Palace.
